I don't think the green is common. It's like a real firefin comp, they're just not easily available. The most common type of tret is blue/white and looks very similar to a front as a juvie. Tank mates can be hard to keep alive from what I've heard, and what I've also read is that they make a nice species only tank. One good thing about them though is they are snail eaters, so your tanks won't be over run with those little b*stards. What size tank are you thinking? I would guess they need a 75 or bigger.

Comps and Calvus probally will not be able to compete w/them. The can get 8"and become pisecivous.(sp)

They will eat anything they can fit in their mouth, and if they start breeding they will run everything out of the tank. I had a pair in my 7 foot 210 gallon, and the took over 6 feet of the tank. They were in the tank with Fronts, Lepidiolamprologus Nkambe, Calvus, Compressiceps, and and around 10 other species. If you get a single specimen, you should be fine, but i wouldn't risk a pair in anything but the largest tanks.

Hey Chugger I used to keep them C.A. like grammodes, & rhytismas. the only africans they stay with where othe neolamprologus ie. leleupi, cylindricus,& some hemichromis species. tetracanthrus are to viscious for altolamprologus. By the way Worldwide on Garret RD. has some altolamprologus fasciatus & some tyranochromis species if you're still looking for them.

Goathead....
How was the Lepido. Nkambu in that tank? Is it solo or in a group?

I have about 5 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch tetracanthus with a variety of other cichlids. I have it with a red zebra, jack dempsey, livingstoni, firemouth, green terror, jewel, managanuese, and a compressicep. They all get along real fine but I also feed them about 4 times a day and they LOVE to eat

Fred.... how big is your tank?
