Neon tetras : Advice from a succesful keeper

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have some neons in my community tank. they are hardy as hell. they've been the only ones in my tank to not even be affected by any ich outbreaks. i've had them for awhile and nothing has really affected them, they've gotten pretty big [jumbo] i don't think they're hard to keep, it's more where you purchased them and the shops track record

The mortality rate of cardinals is often much higher than neon tetras. They are by nature a less sturdy fish. Neons have been weaken by inbreeding, but they still have a lower mortality rate during shipping than neons.

There are many other tetras out there that are just as gorgeous. Serpae, Brokenline, Penguin, Emperor, rummynose.....try them. Neons and Cardinals get the spot light a lot of the time, but they aren't always all that. ;)

A school of 20-30 roseline sharks would be pretty sweet.

roselines are little more pricey though. I was thinking tetras within the average aquarists price range to get a school of. Granted, if you could afford it that WOULD be awesome. Roselines are HOTT!!

Two words : wild caught, but i can be difficult to find them most stores sell captive breed ones

Roselines are amazing fish, but yes they are quite expensive.

I have a dozen Congo Tetras right now and they are definitely a lot more interesting than the neons I used to have.
