Could i use a cheaper grade of plywood for where i offet my seams? im using AC grade plywood for the inside.

Yes, I think you could go with a cheaper grade on the very bottom sheet. I would want the sheet facing into the tank to be sanded on that side. As you can see I have been away for a few days.

Very nice sump, I love the external bracing after the interior was completed. Looking forward to seeing the internal sump workings!

well im useing a bio tower design. my plan was to make a biotower 10ft long by 1foot wide by how ever tall the stand plus tank is and stuff it full of scrubbies. that sump will hold my heater and what not plus as many convicts as i can get my hand on. on that note the store wants 4$ a peice for convicts i might just throw a want add up on here after its complete see if i can get them cheaper.

also if anyone knows a pump stronger then the reeflo hammerhead could you please post a reply.

You could also use tongue and groove plywood for your first layer, and/or a biscuit cutter and biscuits. Lastly if you can make accurate markings, you can drill and use dowel rods to give some support to the joints.

im really mad at myself after i build the tank i find out that i cant use a sump because 5ft width takes up "to much room" women! i told her it would keep people from spending to many nights with us she wont go some im exploring other options.

I don't think you need that big of a sump.

I have a heavily stocked African tank.. It's a 300 gallon. The sump is built into the tank.. roughly 6" wide. There's about 10 gallons of bio balls in there. The sponge prefilters need to be rinsed out about once a week, but that's more than adequate bio-filtration.. I don't think you need a 360 gallon sump (I don't remember the exact measurements)..

If the wife doesn't want a sump, consider walling off part off the tank and doing an in-tank sump.. I really like mine. Much simplier set up.. the water falls over the overflow, over the media.. Two pumps send the water back..

the reason why i built the sump large because a few reasons. Bigger is always better dont let anyone tell you different. i also want to breed convicts down their incase i need to satisfy my need to see the stock feast on live animals. also the main reason anyway i configured it i need 2 peices of plywood so i might as well use my money to its best abilty. as for using or not using the sump it really depends on how thick glass needes to be at 4ft height and 5ft height if i can get away with not outragously thick glass and get a taller tank im going with a over the head filters no sump.
