When I had to move my huge fahaka, I had to just grab her with my hands and pick her up. Netting puffers is not recommended because of thier skin. Not the typical situation though, lol. I just pick her up and ran to the new tank, in she went.

I have a large python net that works for about 80% of my fish, real nice net does not hurt the fish and stands up to Pleco barbs well too (18 inch head)

For the big boys (peacock bass, large (2 foot) catfish, Dovii, etc) I use my trout landing net and it works well and a whole lot cheaper than petstore net that size

I use a pond net to get the big boys.

I use a rubber pond net to catch them and then usually pick them out of the net with my hands to stop it damaging or cutting them

I drain the tank about 2/3 and use a lg koi net. Gotta move slow so they don't get spooked

Draining the tank is huge too, I tend to have to drain my bigger tanks otherwise too much real estate to cover!!!

I have also seen people use tank dividers to cut the tank in 1/2 or 1/4 to make it easier to catch the fish (I used a large piece of plexi-glass) you just keep squeezing the fish to one side of the tank so there is nowhere to go except into the net (be careful of fish with teeth they will bite TRUST ME.)

a fishing weigh sling is what ill be using when my little monsters become to big for the nets. in the uk we use padded padded weigh slings when fishing for carp or catfish. a good one normally has mesh screens alowing water movement so the fish is safe and can be kept in the sling for a while in the water.
