Not that we ever like to do it, but what does everyone uses to net large fish? My regular aquarium nets are now too small for some of my fish, and they ain't gonna stop growing.

For big fish, I use a fishing net, the net is jelly like material and smooth so it doesn't hurt the fish or put strain on them.

larger net are really expensive to buy so I make my own. Spend a few hours with only about $20 instead of over $100 in a net that I don't even really like the material.

Draining the tank is huge too, I tend to have to drain my bigger tanks otherwise too much real estate to cover!!!

I have also seen people use tank dividers to cut the tank in 1/2 or 1/4 to make it easier to catch the fish (I used a large piece of plexi-glass) you just keep squeezing the fish to one side of the tank so there is nowhere to go except into the net (be careful of fish with teeth they will bite TRUST ME.)

Just last week I had to go out to my backyard pond to get the tropicals out for the winter (been pretty warm in AZ) Oscar?, check caught him sunning (a good indicator that it was time) two 21" common plecos? check caught them on the side. 8" JD? had to drain the pond into the alley until there was just 1ft of water left and then climb in to catch him...not fun. Kept looking down the alley to see if anyone noticed 5000 gallons going by...sigh the things I do for my fish.

Anyway yes sometimes it's so much easier to drain it, others they leave you no choice but to drain it, no matter how long it's going to take to fill back up...

I use the really large fishing nets that are rubber. Amazing nets for catching fish.

Ill probably go with a tote in the future when my fish are too big, even now with the 5 inch+ bichirs I put a clear pitcher in the tank and guide them in. My rope fish 12 inch swims right in usually, ornate is fussy about it.. I like the pitcher/tote method, that way your fish is never 100% out of water

+1. Fish with barbs and spines don't get stuck in them

If the fish are too big I just use the bag. Makes it a lot easier. I like the pillow case idea.
