How about you liberals who are always bleating about how conservatives should not judge Muslims by the actions of a vast minority, which is comprised of radicals, give us the same courtesy?

After all, the people who are responding to this are police, soldiers and other military members, not some Dale Gribble tinfoil hat bunker dwellers.

Im sorry I didnt differentiate YOUR group from those "other groups," but the second you impede the Gov't actions, thats what you are, thumping the constitution or not. While we are making corrections, I don't appreciate you lumping me in with anybody either. Sorry guys I just read through this debacle of a thread and unfortunately haven't had the time to go through much information as of yet. From what I have gathered thus far this poor soul is a victim. No matter what he has or has not done this has been very poorly handled. Before this is over I can very easily see someone losing their life over this mess. Our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves over the treatment of this situation. The BLM is seemingly using the desert tortoise as an excuse to kick this rancher off range that has been part of his families business for generations, predating the BLM entirely. Meanwhile they are actually killing the tortoises in the area due to there being too many of them in the area. Sound counterintuitive to me.

And as for the comment about there being no need for free range in this day in age, it goes to show the ignorance of the individual's knowledge on anything to do with agriculture and how our nation works. I will try and look into this deeper tonight or tomorrow and weigh back in.

Also of note in this vein is that the BLM is currently actively in the process of euthanizing several thousand desert tortoises in its stead.

idk how this gotten to liberal/conservatives blah blah, all i know is that federal land is "public land." If the cattle grazing ruins public land, it has to be stopped. I dont understand grazing cattle in the desert tbh, is there a specific breed that the rancher has that is adapted to the desert?
anyways, i dont understand one mod going to flame the liberals, im a moderate liberal and i feel this right wing-left wing hate is dumb, just find a compromise and continue to work on it.

Idk who said they are killing tortoises. They are a protected species in Nevada so I HIGHLY doubt the BLM is euthanizing tortoises. If this is true so be it, but provide evidence before stating it. When I worked for park service I was explicitly told not to touch tortoises or even keep any shells I found (and I saw many) because just being in the possession of even a shell is a huge fine.

The BLM was founded for the purpose of facilitating ranchers grazing their cattle on public lands. When the BLM started using the fees paid by those ranchers to kick them off of this land (and Nevada by Nevada law it is a free range state), he stopped paying the BLM in protest. He offered to pay his fees to the state, but they didn't want it. He has continued to pay his fees into a trust.






You two are profoundly ignorant and are blatantly insulting to the uniformed services of his country. The largest militia organization that is responding to this crisis are the Oath Keepers, an organization I am proud to be a member of.

The Oath Keepers are comprised solely of Americans who have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. This is military, law enforcement and elected officials. If you've never taken that oath, you can't join.

We, the police and military, who believe in the Constitution are more dangerous to America than Muslim radical terrorists? Surely you jest.

I'm profoundly ignorant for acknowledging that a subset of the folks responding to this aren't oathkeepers, A group I fully support and agree with wholeheartedly, but extremists who are looking for a fight with the federal government. There are sovereign citizen groups, anarchist groups, and others who are hoping for a violent end and they're side by side with the folks who are working to resolve this peacefully. If you choose to ignore that fact then I'm sorry but you are the one who is ignorant.
