NEVER, EVER.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most people (other than MFKers) believe what the LFS tells them. That is a form of research. I know the first 10 years of my fish keeping career, all the research I did was word-of-mouth. It still is, after a fashion. Ask 10 MFKers about salting a freshwater aquarium and you will get 10 different answers. So, please don't blame the OP. He has learned his lesson, and a bunch of know-it-alls will not make him stick around and learn. So please, chill.

EVERYONE impulse buys ...

just lighten up ... this is the kind of attitude that runs people off ...

like a few I will NOT associate with ... IF I get jumped on - screw it - I am gone.

Some of you are OVER THE EDGE ... get off your high horse and :chillpill:

Hi hope,
Dont let a couple of people make you want to give up on this forum. there are plenty of people who care and think the same way you do. sorry about your fish.:(
There was a quote by someone on this site that said "an impulse buy is a fish that I forgot that I planned to get" or something like that. I could not find the exact quote:redface:

Thats good to know because I've been wanting to buy some eels that are brackish but the guy at the fish store said that they do well in freshwater too.

"freshwater" moray eels NEED to go brackish or full saltwater as they mature. They will not live long in freshwater. The spiny eels (tiretrack, fire, peacock etc) and maybe a few others (not moray eels) are true freshwater.

there are different types of so called fresh water eels.

Mine looked like they were passing out

the one was on the bottom (which is normal) and about 1/3 of his body was pointing towards the surface and in a moment he fell backwards with his belly exposed.

The other one loss the use of one of the gills for a while.

During that same time I also lost my favorite puffer too. He died and the only thing wrong was the salt level was finally brackish.

Even the guppy's were fine in the brackish.

From what I have learned on line - many types of eels go into fresh water to spawn. However; the info on these guys is minimal at best.

I even contacted a Marine Biology University in (I think) Singapore hoping to get some information on them and no one there knew anything about them.

From what I can tell - no one has done a captive breeding of these guys either!

I've never had any problems with 'Impulse Buying". They're just fish that I forgot I had planned to get.

im not trying to make any waves here, i was just stating that mistakes are made by all, including myself. but ultimately i can only blame myself for making the purchase. i lost over $300 worth of fish from buying a $5 severum that was diseased and it took me 4 months and alot of money in meds to get my tank back to healthy status. do i blame the LFS for this mishap? no. it was my fault for not quarantining the fish, or properly examining it at the store.
almost every time i have impulse bought something i usually get screwed over somehow and the OP of this thread is right, trust no-one, but dont blame them because you were in a hurry to fork over cash. im sorry if my words sound harsh sometimes and i wasnt trying to be "over the top" just making a point.

I hear you ...

I tend to say things in an overly direct way too ...
Actually; it shows what my dad taught me is correct ...

a person notices the faults and short comings of others that they themselves possess.
