"freshwater" moray eels NEED to go brackish or full saltwater as they mature. They will not live long in freshwater. The spiny eels (tiretrack, fire, peacock etc) and maybe a few others (not moray eels) are true freshwater.

spiney eels arent eels and therefore arent true fw eels

However; the info on these guys is minimal at best.

I even contacted a Marine Biology University in (I think) Singapore hoping to get some information on them and no one there knew anything about them.

From what I can tell - no one has done a captive breeding of these guys either!

are you joking, there is soo much information about these species (there are a few that are very similar and sold as freshwater morays). however most of it is opinionated as always but most opinions can be learned from even if they are not good, i trust bob fenner from www.wetwebmedia.com i considered buying gymnothorax tile, the species in the pic, a while back and so i did research and i found plenty on information on them, you just have to look harder in the right places. in the end i decided not to as i rather just go full marine and get a zebra moray and choose from a wider variety of fish

Trust your LFS or a chain store. NOT unless you KNOW you can trust the person. I have learned this the VERY hard way. I currently have two fish I need to get rid of.. they are BRACKISH water and were sold to me as FRESH water. This same store sold someone I know a goldfish saying it would be GREAT for her 1 gal. Same place tried to tell me that I could put a pleco in a 10 gallon. Oh, and they sold me a CLEARLY VISIBLY sick cherry barb that died the next day. And a neon tetra that had.. NEON TETRA DISEASE.. which then killed one of my other fish. ... needless to say.. I'm finding a new LFS...

Moral of the story? again

NEVER, EVER, EVER, Trust someone you do not KNOW you can. Just because they work for a fish shop, doesn't mean anything, one of the kids who works at mine, actually told me he cant keep fish cause they always die.

Thanks for the advice. I will never trust another human being again. Especially the LFS, when they tell me 20 feeders for a buck......dont' believe it.

Never trust the LFS, unless you know them personally. Chat with them a bit to gauge their expertise and start a retailer relationship. If anything you can help them become a better LFS and they can provide you better quality stock.

Well,,,I know them personally to know that they don't know crap about fish...should I still trust them. I know I can trust them to be ignorant about fish. Should I still trust what they say?

lol... we take these forums way too seriously. ignore, don't react, to name callers or those that throw personal insults. not worth it.

You are absolutely right. Just ingnore those member that call names and reply using rude tone or do it like me by replying calmly and politely to them. Maybe this will make them change their attitude. This kind of member think they are the best because they have been in the forum such a long time and have thousand of post. I pity them because they don't know how to express their comment politely. For the victim don't feel ashame or angry. The rude member should be ashame of himself because it reflect negatively on their attitude.

It also reflects badly on the hobby, and turns people to either not caring about proper care for their fish, or makes them continue to search for forum after forum, and not many forums have many varieties of fish!!

I think the OP is pretty much gone, which is sad....some people just can't handle the welcome wagon of this forum...

I admit, I have been brash and rude and almost mean once or twice, but I've always felt like an *** for it, and felt the need to apologize afterwards.

I love that quote by oddball, since I almost always end up running home to my computer, and scoping here, and google to find out about some new something or other that was begging to come home to a nice clean tank with plenty of space.

I'm rapidly running out of space to do that though....so I really do need to quit while I'm ahead.

And to Scorponok, don't be snooty, it never helps anyone but you, to look haughty and full of yourself (whether you really are or not). And I mean that in the nicest way possible. :) You have some good info, and it'd be better if you just cut to the chase and let others learn from you.

i'm sad the OP is gone. i would have liked to ask why she hasn't just returned the fish to the stinkin' lyin' store they came from. . . .

local fish stores are mostly chain owned they only want to make money and they do no breeding hire a bun ch of youg kids who have limited knowledge or none at all... lets see.... mine sold me "floating plants" that wernt floating lol she says well all plants float after i took them back... all stores will sell goldfish to anyone no matter what they have... many stores have stressed disease carrying fish... parasites...ive bought a lot of tetras like that.. all my german rams were full of hormones... lfs arnt trustable i will never buy fish from a chai n store ever again...
