Oscars are evil. I used to have two, not surprisingly i had to get rid of one.

My current oscar treats the other fish better than me.

He floats here next to me, appearing to be my friend. My little window buddy, just watching me type this...

But as soon as the hand goes into the water, its go time! He turns into some... hellish little, greasy demon!

He has gone as far as jumping like 6-8" out of the water to bite me durring WC's, I SCREAMED! Like a little girl, just about knocked the hood off my tank. And he's just floating there pissed off looking at me as if to say, you knew!

I need welding gloves to clean my tank. I'm a victom of my fish.... lol

I can understand your feelings of needing welding gloves, but after a while, they'll dry out, crack and won't be of much use from your O's teeth attacks.

I recommend the use of chain mail gloves, used by butcher's in meat departments of grocery stores. [You may have to speak to the meat department manager to order them, and may have to explain why you need them. Most times they're pretty cool about it if you're up front about it.] They are not cheap, but last a lifetime. They run in the neighbor hood of about $100.00 each, $200.00 a pair. You can purchase R or L hand gloves, or ambedextrious ones. I'd choose R & L, the others are a PITA. They are made of very small stainless steel interlocking chain links and have a velcro wrist closure, so it will not come off while you're working.

Just rinse them in fresh water after use and air dry completely until you use them again. About once every month or so , you can wash them in a mild dish soap & water, rinsing real good in a basin of hot water to ensure all soap is off. Change rinse water if needed. Or use a weak solution of tap water & chlorine (1:50,000 ppm) should do okay for sterilizing. Submerge for 90 seconds in the chlorine water. Again, just be sure to rinse real good. And then hang them up to air dry.

This is just food for thought and I wanted to sharethis idea with you to possibly help overcome chiclid bites from your fish. I hope this helps and wish you have much happiness, success and enjoyment from your fish.

I know the feeling. I used to have a midas that bite my hands, I still have the scars from him, lol. He bit so hard I would bleed. Now I have Charlie, my parrot who bites me when I try to clean his tank, he's not a happy camper but it doesn't hurt. He charges at me and the python, takes me longer to clean the tank, lol. :irked: He gets so mad and riled up it's hilarious.

I have a gold severum over 10 years old that is savage. She has killed every severum I have put in with her. I have had her so long I can't get rid of her. Oh well...

i woke up two days ago to my four year old crying and telling me the oscar was eating dragon (my delhezi) and sure enough he was sticking out of the oscars mouth!
so now the oscar is in solitary until the guy that is buying him comes over tonight! :angryfire:irked::wall:
