New 180 gallon filtration recommendations

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would the 2262 be enough by itself? I've actually be reading up on that filter for the past 2 hours but can't find it less than $500 which is a bit more than I'd like.

I run an FX5 and a sump on my 220G and an FX5 and a 406 on my 150. Both seem good as long as i don't overstock them. My 220 is overstocked now and the water could definately be clearer. Getting a sump was my biggest regret.

I have the Xp3 on my 90 that I was going to use to supplement whatever filter i get. I almost bough the pro 3 1200XL twice before changing my mind. I did that once so far with the FX6 but have a hard time stomaching $339 for them when i got my FX5's last year for $200 a piece new.

Decisions Decisions.

$600 for my 180 Gallon Tank/Stand/Lids all Marineland...thought i got a deal.

Now i'm looking at spending another $500 on filtration...

NO DEAL.

Also, how would an eheim 2260 work with the xp3? Found one for $350.

nvermind...they dont come with valves....

yeah the 2262 comes with the double taps and the bigger pump. They don't come up often, I jumped when I saw the one I bought come up. Now there is one local for 425 with media... Patience may pay off for you, either way you might come across something used which would save you a ton unless you have a time deadline..

I am currently running a Fluval fx6 on my 180 gallon, works great and does a very good job cleaning and clearing the water, I would personally go with fluval fx6 :)

I favor wet dry sump filters for tanks that big. When the bacteria are wet but also have contact with air it allows them to work more effectively. Plus they are easy to clean. And you can make them if you choose. The most expensive part will be the pump

Just pulled the trigger on the FX6.

If i need more down the road, i'll browse the sites and wait for a deal. Thanks everyone!

I think you'll be happy with your decision. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the tank when it's up and running.

Will do. Thanks for your suggestions.

Now i gotta think about the scape and the dithers. Anyone try the Poecillia Petensis? These are the largest growing sailfin mollies and they are from Lago Peten which is where the Melenura are from. I will have Spilirus in there too which are also from Guatemala.

Trying to do a biotope.
