New 300 gallon stocking ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow that fish in the video is cool looking. They must be expensive though i have never seen or heard about those before.

Would an arrowana work with new world cichlids?

Yes, depends on the cichlids size though.

Got it, thanks. What about a giant gourami with these cichlids or would that not work?

Giant gouramis have special care requirements such as needing vegetables... A full grown giant gourami will fill your tank by itself! I would advise against it as I just think it will outgrow your tank as big as it is...

Nah, nah, nah. Just buy nothing but Vieja's. Regani, Synspilum, Fenestratus, Zonatus, Argentea, Bifasciatus, Breidohri. Go look at some of those on youtube, see if you like 'em. Look up chaidan's aquarium blog, he used to post on here. Here's a link to a Fenestratus that's amazing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqd36AWwZSg That's what I'd do if I was you. Just sayin'

+1. Here's another video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5qhft3pBSk No, they are not expensive at all when you get them as juvies. You won't find these guys at Petsmart/Petco, but easy enough for LFS to order. They max out about at around 12", can have tons of colors, and typically only semi-aggressive. Excellent community fish. Also check out Bocourti, Hartwegi, Carpinte, Pearsei, etc. Check out my link at the bottom. Its a 180 grow out for my Viejas/Paratheraps.

no, silver arowana need a 375g to them selves... no to tsn either, get 4ft+. as said gg will need all the tank, infact a smaller red tail giant gourami would need all that tank... and how are cichlids a basic beginner setup pmsl!-) i have an aggressive cichlid and catfish setup also 300g, in my signature, and the aggression and ripped fins do grate on you when its not working and you often have to move on fish that you quite like for their own good... a south american biotope would be a great direction imo could do chocolates, severum, acara, green terror, oscar, maybe a docile festae, silver dollars, a highfin red wolf and some nice plecos... maybe some ornate pimlodus cats would look good aswell. probably not all of the above but a combination would work well... remember tho 300g is not as big as you think, mine seemed massive at first but once you put big fish in you realise its only 2x 150g and try to stock it that way!-)

good luck and congrates.

Thanks guys. I really like the look of the vieja cichlids but I'm still trying to learn about them. Can they be mixed with some of the other cichlids likes severum, Salvini, oscar ect?

Also how many of the vieja's would I be able to hold in that tank

Sorry man, but i think that an arowana would be fine in a 300 gallon. I mean, if anything at least it is a way better home then the average consumer that impulsively buys the fish can provide...
