New 3500 gallon tank- trying to decide what fish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sadly we have had a lot of storms here and the room leaks onto that part of the glass. Not much but just enough that it is always discolored like that.
I meant to clean it today when I was in there playing with the pond, but I forgot.
We have a gardener who comes in and waters the plants and cleans the glass once a week- me and the garndeners and the president of the company are the only ones with keys to the atrium.

you need to speak with whoever is taking care of the plants, so you can make sure he or she doesnt get any kind of fertilizer in the tank while he or she cares for the plants

maybe you could convince the gardner to water with the pond water. it would have natural fertilizer already in it (and take care of part of the water chang maintenance).

idk wat kind of budget your working with but in my area african cichlids are 5-7 dollars each....maybe you could change up the landscape around the pond to help prevent/assist jumping incidents....either way you go its gonna look good....cant wait for pics!(with fish)haha

Get a bunch of wild oscars so the shoal.......

I'm not going to lie, I was hoping someone would say something like this. Yeah, you could go "GARS DATS AROS RAYS PBASS LIMA LOLOLOL" But come on, most gars and half the aros people are suggesting would outgrow a swimming pool. Rays are nice, for fish enthusiasts. Catfish look nice, but can get kinda messy. Aros, most people won't really care. Gars, come on... really?

I love Koi, but everyone does Koi. Then again, most of the smaller fish won't look good from top... so this may be the most feasible way to go.

When you get a shoal of oscars in a good sized space, watching them is stunning.

how about.... if it's in your budget I'd say pay to put some glass around it to raise the water level several feet. then you'd have a better choice of fish because you could look through the side as well as the top. although I think while you're at it you might as well put a lake where the atrium thingy is and put an arapaima or 2 in. it might be a bit cheaper and more worthwhile.

Koi for sure.

Oscars would be amazing, I hope someday I get a change to keep a shoal of them. Having the two that I did for awhile convinced me they are really cool, I can only imagine how interesting it would be to watch a serious group of them interact. You could even throw in a bunch of crawfish if you get the O's small enough so the craws wont get eaten right away. Once they grow big enough the O's should leave them alone and people will be shocked to see a lobster in there! haha I know if before I got on this website and walked into an office building with a bunch of 8-10" O's and 5-6 decent size crays I would have been in amazement!
