but won't it just be pumped through both pipes????

Yes, both will run into the sump, but in case of power out it will drain the pipes and not syphon from the tank

sorry im being a bit dim in my mind it will still drain,, are you relying on the short pipe sucking back air ??

yes, which it should if its shorter than the long 1

So heres the progress so far, the 3 dividers in the bottom, 3 more to go raised up but i need to let these 3 dry a little 1st
before i start

I know it aint the prettiest thing but i never glued glass b4.
I now know my right hand is watertight as its covered in glue
