New 96x24x30 Aquarium

Yes, but do you think he really needs more than 2200 gph? I think he would be fine at 2000-2100 gph, which would be about 6x turnover rate.

Oh yeah i think 2200 is fine but we also dont know the type of fish or how large the stocking is.

My fear would be that op uses two siphons and 1 e drain and that e drain cant handle the flow.

Op you should/could test your e drain when you dialing in your siphons. Depending on the plumbing. If you install ball valves on the siphon lines and a gate valev. Once to get the gate/s set close the ball valve and see if your e drain can handle the flow. If not then you need tp adjust (lessen the flow)

Thanks everyone. Its all very helpful. That chart is very useful.

I dug up another pump out of the garage. I now am planning on two pumps:

A Sicce Syncra 5.0 (1321 gph)

A Cal Pump 1200 (745 gph).

Both pumps gph slightly less with the head obviously.

I should have 6x + turnover.

For holes, I'm taking advice : 4 1.5" ( 2 are e drains)
4 3/4" returns

Its so great to have this forum as a resource. Thanks!

I think you are going to need two bigger pumps. If I had to guess, with 4ft of head height, those pumps will probably only push around 1000-1100gph, which is probably a bit low for that size tank. You probably want to be closer to 2000gph.

Ok. I can can certainly go bigger. I had those pumps already. Any experience on a pump (or pumps) that would be best for me?

Probably two Jebao DCP 10000's or 15000's. They are adjustable from 30-100%, with a controller, and are very energy efficient. They are also very quiet. You would probably have to run them on a lower setting, but that will help keep them quiet and keep them from working hard all the time, which will help them last longer.

I have two of the Jebao DCP 8000's on my 220 and run them at about 55-60% each, which gets me about 1600gph.

Thanks. I'll look into those.

I have 6 Caribe Piranhas that have just outgrown their 120 gallon. There are also two large Plecostomus and one Rapheal catfish that I never see. They are all currently in a 300 gallon stock tank in the middle of the living room.

They are fairly messy fish and good eaters so more flow/filtration sounds like a good idea.

Thanks
