New addition- gt grow out thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What are you shooting with?

Just my galaxy s6. Nothing fancy. And some light editing in the gallery. No special apps used.

aztsm aztsm Thank you, he has grown way faster then I ever expected.

Sounds great I have a hard time shooting my Haitiensis since they're so white. They always end up washing out color wide but he's amazing. 5 female GTs later I gave up on ever having a male lol. I do miss my first female. I got her half off because she was pretty beaten up so I took a chance on her. She recovered and became belligerent in my community cichlid aquarium lol. I miss her attitude and personality.

I found taking advantage of natural light in addition to the tank light help show color best without washing them out. If you have windows in the room maybe trying to get pictures with the tank light off could help with such a light fish.

My first gt was a female. I was a bit disappointed, but she is amazing. She is my favorite fish for sure. I feel pretty lucky to have found my male at such a small size and been confidant about him being male. I don't know what I would have done if I would have gotten another female.

Of course, now I have more gts then I know what to do with. Haha XD
Since finding out that salting the tank is the only way fry can survive, I can easily control the outcome of future spawns now. So once the current fry go to new homes I won't be overloaded with babies anymore.

I've been distracted with my pond, a new koi not doing well, and the many babies Greenie and Oliver have had. But I'm finally updating again.

I had to divide the tank for a while. Greenie was being brutal to Oliver. She nipped off his trailers:( I was very upset. She was pissed when I separated them. She sat staring through the divider glaring at him and flashing her stripes.
Mad Greenie.

They would still be divided, but Oliver jumped the divider somehow and was over on her side after a couple weeks. So I just took it out. Since then he has held his ground. I think that gave him the boost he needed. There hasn't been any major damage since then. Just some lip locking a couple times.
He has been bulking up more now. I think he is around 5 1/2, not 6" yet for sure since Greenie is still just a hair longer then him. If I was brave I'd take them out to measure, but I'm so scared I'll hurt or traumatize them.

And finally, here is Oliver:) IMG_1387.JPG
His tail is finally getting a thicker orange band. I've also noticed that his tail is smaller then most gt I've seen.

Looking fantastic MrsE88 MrsE88
He looks great bulked up and I hope those trailers grow back soon.

@jaxnell Thank you.

*Update*
It's a week early, but I was able to sneak some pictures of Oliver this morning.
His trailers are almost grown back now. He is also looking more mature, at least I think he is.

Oliver and Greenie are the same size now. He is also the dominant one in the tank since jumping the divider.
