hi all, just got my aimara yesterday, and the questions are,...
mine hasn't eaten anything just yet (though I already dropped some feeders goldfish in), should I be worry about this?
The tank is 140g growout and the aimara is approx 25cm, and I also put a powerhead to create currents, thus I am wandering if strong currents got anything to do with the less appetite, what do you guys think?
I am using an external canister filter with integrated uv lights. (the filter was used for other fish tank sometimes ago) Is it necessary to turn on the uv lights for aimara's tank?
pls help...
(I will post some pics as soon as the monster settles down...)
thanks

Normal for a new fish not to eat for a few days. Aimara's love the current so that wouldn't be causing any problems. Maybe leave your tank lights off for a few days until he gets familiar with the tank. My Aimara prefers frozen smelts over feeder fish. So you will have to try to see what the Aimara likes best. When I first got my Aimara I threw in a bunch of feeders and he disposed of them in a few days. Now he hates feeders and when I try giving him a few it seems like he is pissed at me and then he stops eating for a few days. Now I strictly feed smelts and he basically jumps out of the tank to grab one as soon as I lift the lid. Feed him with whatever he was familiar with before you got him. If he was eating feeders before you should slowly ween him off and get him on some frozen foods. Better for him in the long run! Good luck with your Aimara and watch your fingers when cleaning and feeding!! LOL

thanks alot for the thought, I was under the impression that aimara would take anything, eventhough mine has not been eating anything yet, he would still attack the glass whenever I wave my hand in front of his tank, lol. I'll go and ask the previous owner about the food he used to have.
cheers

if your tank is indoor and no strong lightings, there isnt a need for uv lights , aimara is the same care requirement as any wolf i guess ,only precaution is like what blkP's says watch your fingers if you intend to put it in

Ok thanks for info, meanwhile does anyone knows the origin of my aimara? Is it Venezuelan aimara? Thanks
