I agree with Jelly, aimara need long time to adaptation. When the aimara feel stress, it will attack anything, including the net, glass of tank when you stay close to the tank. My aimara did not eat prawn for two weeks, it bite the prawn and spit out. Do not worry about it.
I think size of the tank is most important to reduce its stress. MY aimara is 18 inches lives in 60*30*30 inch. It looks comfort. It stay in the mid of tank about 60% of time, did not stay in the buttom or in the corner of tank compared with the small tank. It took about 5-6 prawn everyday. I will tell you about my idea for setting the Aimara's tank
1) My opinion: Size of tank is most important. Width and Height make it feel relax
2) Putting the wood in the tank make it feel secure
3) putting the power head to create the flow
4) I turn on the light for 24 hours, Someone recommend to reduce the light, but i would like to see my fish. So i turn on the fluorescent 24 hours and put the white sticker at the buttom of tank, easy to see the Aimara.
5) put some tankmate. I think tankmate will reduce its stress. i mix my fish with wide-bar SD, Pecu and giant snakehead.
These are my idea. Happy with your fish
Thanks for the info, today I begin giving him earthworms, and supprisingly he takes it rightaway, and after having a couple earthworms he is no longer hiding in the corner. But I still give him some ghostshrimps for variety in the diet. That's a nice setup you got there. I haven't had any luck combining him with tankmates just yet, as he already attacked one of my common pleco. Other than that, he is just not interested with feeders that I gave him ( which is of course a good thing). Cheers
