phew.. just went from page 1 to the last to see the development of this nice tank...

1st of all, i wanna say CONGRATULATIONS on the wedding, the oncoming baby and this tank!!! with all these things going on, i wudnt know what i wud do 1st...just dont 4get to balance ur time :) i know u know wat i mean. ;)

next, u,ur friends and the old man made a very very good job on the stand and the light fixture! i know the stand is not finish yet but i can already imagine how its gonna look like with ur plan on it.

with the space u have on bottom i wudve gone with a big wet/dry system (it wudve cost less $$ compared to the 2 fx5 u bought, but anyway i understand where ur coming from... from no idea on it then hearing flood stories i wud go with canisters too. im not sure if 2 fx5 would be enuff for ur load but i wud try and get the monster Eheim 2229 wet/dry cannister filter.

so ur going for a nice community and planted tank eh??? hmmmm... not a bad choice. However, a good black background would bring out the best colors on ur fishes and will/can make ur plants strike out. Either that or a nice 3D wood or rock background would make a natural looking boitope.

Oh yeah, about the plants, U wud need hella lot of plant to fill that monster up so i think it would be best if u order them in bulk from a supplier rather than going to the LFS. Theres alot around if ull just search, if u want i or wyldflya can help u find a good site where to order bulk plants from.

I know how hard it is to try and find a nice place for a plant to stay,
heres a start, start with the background plants 1st(plants that will occupy the back section of the tank. Fill the whole back section of that monster tank with tall-growing and easy to care for plants like the Vallisneria sp. Giant Vallisneria shud be commonly available from lfs.
then the plant that stays in te mid section of the tank
here is where ur creativity starts.. play around with med-size growing plants.
Mother plants wud be good and some cabombas.
then lastly the small plants that wud occupy the front.. it shudnt be hard with alot of grass-looking and carpeting plants that are fairly easy to take care of.

Good Luck and have fun planting! ;)
Dont 4get too that u have alot of stuff to buy for the newcomer too :)
Congratulations once again.

and ps. sorry i didnt realize i made such a long post. lol i ussually dont do that.
im guess im just excited for u and this tank lol. pardon me.
id be looking forward for ur future tank pics :D

awesome tank. an expense well worth it no matter how much it costs.

sorry to hijack your thread, but i wanted to build an all glass 90cmhigh x90 wide tank to better house my stingray and aro. however i read somwhere that silicone cant withstand pressures above 30". the article said that the silicone will simply unzip at anything higher than 30".

is that true?

no. anyone who told you that is bulls\*@ing you. what is wise is to use an alluminium(pronounced al umin i um not al u minum) thing to reinforce the corners and use lots of silicone and bracing

I agree...any pics of the completed tank?
