i had a 34" aligator gar MONSTER that i would of sent you for free lol but nice to know the site is reliable gl on the monster tank :)

I'm always amazed at the fascination folks have over alligator gar. I guess it's because they are so common here as to be a nuisance. Of course, this is mostly from my perspective as a fisherman.

Often when fishing for other species you'll hook and/or catch gar. Often they cut you off and you lose tackle, or if you do land them, you have to deal with the teeth to release them. While they are edible, they aren't great eating. Their flesh has kind of a cottony texture and they are tough to clean. They also aren't very good fighters pound for pound. Don't get me wrong, a 5-foot long gar will pull hard because of his sheer size, but catch a gar, then catch a similar sized redfish and the redfish fight blows the gar away. They really aren't pretty either.

I guess if I lived in an area where I didn't encounter them all the freaking time, and had the resources to set up a tank big enough to support one it might be interesting.
