Your ackie should also have hides on both sides of it's terrarium so that it can warm up and cool down and feel safe when doing so.

This has got to be the worst advice I have seen on this forum, there was not one thing you said that has any logic or any usefulness.

You just paraphrased your two points that made the most amount of sense, but if you would go and re read your original post I think you could see how unuseful your advice was. If you haven't noticed hoods on reptile light domes have 2-3 sometimes four holes around the circumference of the dome, what do you think that's for? " ventilation and air exchange" small monitors like these can dehydrate very quickly, so keeping the humidity in is of high importance. Those open vent tops are lizard killers.

Btw ackies are by nature very easy going, this isn't a wild caught indo species that will turn into an aggressive beast, an ackie is not a crocodile monitor. And even then I would never suggest forced handling on any lizard. The lizard should feel comfortable enough to come to you on it's own. The trust method seems to not kill and stress them as much as force handling.

no matter where its from its still a wild animal and can bit and when they are big they bite hard and most new onitor owners dont realize this and they end up getting rid of them. this ruins the lizars life because most of the time they just pet store or house hop. im just trying to be a nice guy and spread a few few words from personal experience. no need to criticize man

^ Ackies can not be compared to most "pet store" monitors like Savs and Niles. They're extremely laid back once they've earned your trust and very reluctant to bite. I have 2 and they've never once acted aggressive or tired to bite me.

Thanks for all the replies guys I really appreciate it. So today I got all the things he needs for the 40g and I just moved him into and I'm still setting it up. I'll update when I finish setting it up tonight after I cut the wood for his hiding spots.

Sounds good, just make sure the wood isn't pine or cedar, they're toxic to reptiles. Looking forward to updates.
