Thanks Mike... I have a good idea of what i want to do. I'm going to go with mbuna and trade the peacocks and eventually my compressiceps. Place some more rock in the background to create more hiding spots. Not quite sure what I'm going to purchase yet. So many fish to choose from I know I'll add some more labs...still looking through all the fish now though.

I'm surprised you have fry in your tank. My comp tries to each my smaller fish all the time. BTW what size tank are we talking about, I must have missed it.

edit: Found it, it's a 75. If you get rid of the small hiding spots you won't have a problem with hybrids. Just a thought, some people would never do that though.

If you're talking about chasing the fry, none of my fish actually chased the fry when they were in the big tank. The Compressiceps would zone in on them and slowly move towards them however they would pick up on that and hide.

As for my lab, he gets chased by my red zebra and albino scofoli...

Mike, texas holy rock huh? I've also seen where you recommend sand rather than rocks or gravel. Why is that, and also wouldn't that limit my fry from surviving? When they were release they were so small that they hide in the gravel alone...

Sand works just fine... Looks great holds less waste in it...easier to clean. The holey rock will have tons of hiding spots... I have fry in all my tanks now with sand in it...

To answer Red Devil's question they fight hard enough that my lab is vertical at the top and doesn't even move when I rescue him. I can actually reach in and grab him and he won't even move. Physically exhausted and then my scofoli tugs and bites at him so if I leave him in there he'll just die. The first time, I took him out for about a week. Same thing happened and so I took him back out until I rearranged the tank. Now the lights off seem to be the temporary solution.

Thats bad!!

It is bad huh? So, tonight I got home went upstairs to feed them and turned the light on. The same two fish literally jaw locked and bit one another for about 45 minutes or so. The lab was holding his own but eventually pulled away and swam off. He is torn up good on his sides and his face looks a beat up too.

I'm just going to leave the lights off until Sunday and I'm taking back the Zebra, actually both Zebras.

I think I should also take back the Peacocks and possibly the breeding female. I'll hopefully get a female lab and see what else is available.

I found electric yellow labs just cannot tolerate that constant abuse.. they usually do very well mixed with others once they are matured however.. all of them seem to leave them alone once they hit a good size..but i still think the main problem your having is due to not enough fish in the tank...and perhaps not enough hiding places and nooks and crannies.. i have zebras mixed in with everyone else and they do some chasing but i have never lost any fish due to their aggression.. what i would do is take the lab out let it mature in another tank and see how the tank is with the ones in there and adding a few more..but thats your decision...i also have huge zebras and many other matured fish in the tank and i get lots of babies surviving in the tank..

I have decided to take the zebras and peacocks out. I'm going to do that either tomorrow or Sunday and replace them with a lab female. Not sure what else yet...I have emailed my LFS to see if I can land a good trade prior to going in there.

Thanks to this site and the forums I started researching the mbunas...I like them the best. I now see that I need to put 5 maybe 6 more fish in there. More hiding places are also coming...I think that the places they hide now are all kind of connected and there aren't completely seperate caves etc.

The only thing that confuses me now is why does this only happen when the light is on?
