New Baby and Tank Pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When the lights are out they are sleeping an or think it's night .When the light is on they think it is day and are looking for food and peruzing their territory boundries to make sure no other males enter their domain. At night or dusk and dawn they hide as to not be eaten by larger fish ie Haps like aristochromis chrystyi.chamsochromis ect. It is a survival instinct.

Thanks for the lesson. I'm fairly new to fish keeping especially with cichlids. So you say no other males enter their domain. Do females act the same way and defend territories as well.

usually it is the male that establishes the territory then trys to gather a herim of females to breed with. If another male enters their teritory they will chase them off but if the intruder will not leave a fight will insue and can some times even lead to serious injury or possible death if lips get ripped off and or eyes plucked out Not to frighten you these are extreme circumstances normally they both puff them selvs up and go around in a circle calling eachothers bluff till one is chased off. That is why I keep an all male tank .There is still the odd stand off but not much else.

okay got it, I enjoyed the fry in the tank, I'd rather them be pure rather than a hybrid though. My Scofoli does a similiar thing, but I really think that fish is the mother. Would she be trying to mate with the Zebra perhaps? If so does that mean she would also join in chasing my Lab around?

thanks in advance for your help....

If the lab enterd in to their territory and she had young she would defend them by chasing off the intruder.

So, I have officially traded my large red zebra, albino scofoli, (2) red peacocks for (3) female labs, (3) electric blues. Things seem to be going well so far. They have all been in their new home for about a full day.

The loaches and new labs are constantly going up and down in one corner of the tank but I think they are just getting used to their new homes and the loaches are getting used to the new fish.

Everyone seems to be eating so all is fine.

What do you all recommend I put with the following: (75) gallons
(4) labs
(3) electric blues
(1) hybrid electric blue
(1) zebra
(3) loaches
(1) common placo

Or, is that enough?
