basa is one of the pangasius species, at least according to the label on the packets I buy. any reason it cant be staple?

personally i just never liked the look of the stuff. Being some sort of catfish i imagine its packed with fat, grease, thiaminase and other sorts of "goodies". Also i used to work in a supermarket and had to handle industrial quantities of the stuff hated every minute of it lol
 
are you sure you are talking about basa? if I were to lay a basa fillet next to a tilapia fillet id be hard pressed to distinguish. I didnt think basa had thiaminese? its not on that list thats floating around ( though im sure that list isnt exhaustive)

You have a point, it's what I was thinking. Want to go and net or catch my own fish to fillet and feed him but i'd be worried about parasites. I'm going to catch live mullet and quarantine then i'm a 120 litre plastic tub for a week before feeding the Jack and the Murray cod once they get some more size to them. But not all the time.

Then again you have a point too, but all fish look the same cut up to me. xept rays.

here in aus, tilapia isn't all that common
 
We have the same taste in fish I had a cod for a couple of years before it died for some reason got to 55 cm and was a very aggressive fish no tank mates I tryed four 6 inch spangled perch but they didn't last long till they were dinner

Must be the aussies! Love my natives mate, sucks to ear he died at 55cm. Could of grown him to be a giant!
