It's actually not that difficult. The only hard part is telling whether its mono or occel. Telling whether it's a Orono or not is quite easy
I can't really tell

NOT Orino the black line goes too far into the tail and the headshape is wrong. It's either a mono or occel
I can't believe some people think it's an orino, lol. You are right man it is not an orino FOR SURE.

I'm not saying i Know for sure but my young orino had the lateral line running through the tail until it was a few inches long and still has remnants of it....To me it has more charicteristics of an Orino than occell or Mono....heres a pick of mine look at the remnants:naughty:He is now around 7 to 8 inches ...I don't see how you guys can say so clearly it's mono or Occell the bars are almost perfect Round rossetes don't go up to the dorsel or down past the lateral at all ..So what makes you think it's mono or Occell verses orino?

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236764 check out this thread...the lateral line not running through the tail is more of a orino trait but they are some instances where particular orinos, such as yours, does have it running through the tail but it is never all the way through(in my experience)....one has to also factor headshape etc....some peru monos also have perfect round rossetes when they are young like snookn21s

Aggreed with head shape for sure and it seems eye size and placement ..I still think to say with out a doubt Mono or occell tho at this size ...Great thread trout king

it's a beautiful baby cichla and it will grow up to be even more beautiful and then it'll be much easier to tell what type of cichla it is.

there is no point in arguing over the ID of a fish that is almost impossible to ID at that age. you can all THEORIZE.. but someone is gonna be wrong in 2 months..
