Well about 4-5 days ago I bought another baby silver arowana for myself after my dads 20'' silver jumped out a couple years ago. Lesson learned. Now its my turn to try.

The silver is about 2- 2 1/2inches maybe 3. Right now I am feeding him blood worms since thats the only think he will take at the moment. I tried little crickets but didnt really see him eat any at the time. Yesterday i tried Hikari crushed pellets and those just fell to the floor before he even got to them.

What came to my concern is the little aro will stay at the corner (away from the filter) for hours and only go to the other side once and awhile. Its not that active but dont get me wrong he does swim around but usually on the right side of the tank. I put the worm strainer thing in the middle so he swims toward the middle aswell. Our other aro that died was about 6-8inches when my dad got him and i remember it swiming both sides of the tank.

Should I be concerned? Is he still getting adjusted to the tank/water? I did do a little water change last night and took the little feeder guppies that were in there out (since i heard they carry diseases and such).

Any help would be appreciated!

maybe your flowrate is too strong for your aro. how big is the tank? keep temp at 82º and try those hikari pellets again.. guarantee itll take em in due time, jus starve for 2days and throw in 1 half pellet.

Its just getting used to the new tank. It could take weeks. If the corner is where it feels most comfortable for now, so be it, but it will come around. No worries.

Also, what type of hikari pellets are you feeding it? They shouldnt sink. Make sure its the carnivore food sticks. Break it in half before feeding an arowana that small. They can start taking the food stick whole at around 4-5 inches.

I was thinking about the flow rate aswell i think il add a tube to directly flow into the water to is doesn't splash and or make alot of ripples in the water bc i think thats what scarying him.

As small as this fish is i dont think i should strave it right now. I'll do anything as long as he is eating right now. My dads fish was about 8-12inches before he started taking pellets and we had to starve the fish for a couple of days before he even thought of eating the pellets.

Any more helpful tips and suggestions for rasing a baby aro is much appreciated im reading this forum as much as i can.

Thanks for your help..

I heard the Azoo 9 in 1 food sticks are good and help with the color of the fish. If this is true i may switch over.

After really staring at the fish just now this fish has to be less than if not 2 inches only.

The hikari food sticks are fine. No need to switch over.

As for the size of your arowana, it should be bigger than 2 inches. :) It would still have an egg sac at that size.

Do NOT starve a 2" arowana that has just been introduced to your tank. Your main goal right now is to pack on some weight, not to get him on pellets. And IMO azoo doesnt really work colour wise, i got better results with hikari aro foodsticks.

actually a 75g is perfectly fine for your aro momentarily, Ive also had a 2'' silver in a 75... you may think it is too small to starve but Ive starved mine because it wouldnt eat pellets lol....starved 2 days, 3rd day ate half pellet =D
also make sure your temp is always at around 80-83 esp for smaller aros, they are tropical, enjoy your new MONSTER!
