NEW BEARDIE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well...for starters, Beardies are from the dessert! My male is about 16-18”. I have an outdoor cage I have boasted about before. Do you live in an apartment, or house? I ask because it is much easier to make an outdoor cage for them, and they are SOO happy when you do!
I live in a development so a house but can’t have outdoor cages.

Hey Kolton13 Kolton13 ,
Nice little Beardie you have. I kept one for many years. They are a very rewarding pet to keep. They can be very interactive compared to many other lizards. What is the substrate you are using? Kinda looks like mud.

It is soil. I emptied out the water in the tank and its like impossible to get it all out without taking it down, and im in the basement so brining it up would be a hassle. Its starting to dry with the heat being shown on it.

Hey Kolton13 Kolton13 ,
Beardie's come from hot, dry and arid deserts in Australia. That wet mud can actually hurt your Beardie's health as they can't tolerate a humid enviroment.
There are better substrate choices for him. Some include newspaper, not the best looking but works very well especially for clean up. Other choices that would work are ceramic tile, reptile carpet (not indoor outdoor carpet) and rubber shelf liner. Also no sand as this can cause gut impaction, especially in small Beardie's. Just my 2 cents. GL

He has a whole bunch of rocks to chill on. When the dirt dries it should be ok
