In nature most fish does not live on a mirror...If some people are to lazy to care for such animals they should not buy them. Polypterid fishs lay often on the floor. Laying on cold glass is not very pleasing. They can´t hold on it either. They get no grip on it. Most zoo animals look healthy too. We should offer our animals the most natural circumstances possible and not something like that.
Just FYI but the bottom of the tank isn't as reflective as it seems. ;) Most people in Asia that have barebottom usually use colored vinyl paper of some sort to stick under. How would you know the glass would be cold? Sorry for derailing, bro! Post some more pictures when they get thicker! :)

Nice bichirs OP!!

Ok mr. buff pants

1.) When your inside the tank, the bottom isnt reflective.
2.) Pretty sure if the tank is heated, the bottom glass is warm ;)
3.) Bichirs swim buddy
4.) Fish dont care if it looks natural :screwy: these fish live in mud and crap naturally, not gravel or sand. So I guess we should fill our tank with mud huh?

I'll chip in.

Personally, I prefer all my tanks with sand.
Be it Black sand or crushed garnet.

This is for my own viewing preference.
There is times when I seriously consider going bare tank (mostly on maintenance days)

But there is no problem with bare tanks. Not harming the fish in any way, and it's some peoples preference.

I do know what you are saying about the tank being as close to a natural biotope as possible, but it's not always simple with large fish and many of them.
And at the end of the day we ALL keep our fish in a glass box or concrete pond.
Unless the pond is massive, none of these are very "natural" are they!

Some fish require substrate. But generally Bichirs don't care.
All they care about are their stomachs

very nice, but what is that basket doing in there? certainly the would look better without it.

^ its for seeding the tank.

thanks :) Yup yup, it was used to seed bacteria in my filter.
I'm still looking for a better looking container to replace the ugly basket LOL :)
