New bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you don't see 8 inch senegals for sale everyday. you don't find 8 inch sens unless (normally) they are WC or if it was traded in by a previous owner. Not a WC/CB expert but the bichir has good body proportions unlike some CB sens that have a stubbier bodies etc.

IDK but it could be a very nice CB sen.

Thats what i figured too and has anyone else noticed the influx of larger senegals lately? Seems every store i go to has em at 5 inch + and the usual 1-2 inch

I saw one at an LFS at about 9" or so I was about to buy it when I saw the price tag at $55…. but as small as sens are these days next time I see a deal like that it'll be labeled as a "good one".

Thanks to everyone that liked my bichirs :D but anyone have any ideas on what to feed him? My other bichir's diet are market fish, shrimp, and massivore sinking pellets. Any other suggestions on what to feed these monsters? Thanks!

man I would nab a WC sen for 55 bucks. they are more rare then any other WC bichir if you know the right places from what I see.

Can't recall any vendor that was selling legit WC senegals.

I would take shrimp out of that diet and add stuff like other pellets (tons to choose from just look at what the protein says on the back), theres also silversides, bloodworms*, brineshrimp*, krill, earthworms, beefheart (only feed as a snack), tilapia fillet, catfish fillet, i've tried scallops and only a couple of my polys liked it, I've heard mealworms are pretty good, but if you feed mealworms make sure the worm is freshly molted to make sure your polys don't get there internal organs messed up because of the skin.

Nice Nigerian WC Senegal.

WC senegals are not rare, maybe just the Turkana variants. The commonly found WC senegals are usually from Nigeria. There are plenty; lots of LFS/Vendors don't bring them in because lack of demand. They are just senegals, not much difference from a CB. One of my LFS actually does order senegals from Nigeria, I bought an 11" WC Senegal for $25. They had a bunch of 8"-10" as well.

Are shrimp unhealthy for the bichirs? I feed them smelt but I cut them and take out the guts. Can u please give me some names if pellets that r good to feed them? Also, any other exotic types of fish that go will together with bichirs? I have a giant red tail gourami that I'm looking to sell rn lol

well for shrimp a lot of people say it's bad and then some others say it's not so I've heard it's bad because it is high in thiamine. As far as other pellets I can't really list any others cause there are so many. Almost anything hikari makes is good, NLS (New Life Spectrum) I've heard is pretty good. I personally have only used hikari not because I don't want to use the other, but because the other are available locally for me. Something I do is when I am looking for hidden pellet (some random pellets I may find in my LFS) I see if they are pellets, see if they are sinking, and then look at the crude protein. As long as the crude protein isn't too low I'll end up buying and trying it out. As far as exotic tank mates there are a good amount, but it'd narrow them down depending on your tank size.
