along with my god only knows how many L's of matrix(8L more to be added) and the mix of substrate pro and bio max and what ever else is in those bags i also will be adding a chamber of lavarock for eventual de nitrification...im looking into some matala mats for bottom of sump along with cell pore blocks... but have come across these and wanna try them... set up will contain 400 gallon ray pond(to be upgraded when needed) my 90 gallon a 50 breeder and my 45 will all be tied on to this system... when funds allow i will build my 450 gallon tank since going from a 215 gallon back to a 90 sucks but gotta do what ya gotta do...

i am also looking into bacteria house media but cant seem to find a good source for it....

82,000 square feet cubed?!?!?!?! I am no math wiz, is that how that would read? You are going to need some MAJOR mech...what are your plans for that sir?

82,000 square feet per cubic foot. I'd be wary of that, you will need incredible mech prior to it to avoid clogging.

I wouldn't get too excited about these numbers. I suspect most know intuitively that once in the filter, this product will prove to perform about the same as any other ceramic ring medium.

You can always at least halve the surface areas they give you too...I will fall over dead if I ever measure the same figure as the manufcturers state!

plan so far is 3 7" 200 micron filter socks and im planning on a chamber to force water through filter filter floss

numbers dont mean too much to me... i was gonna get 3 3L bags of the cheaper stuff and 3L of the better stuff.... i like to have lots of media on hand gives me the ability to set up tanks at my will and never have to cycle... plus my bio load will be through the roof....

also am thinking of using floating moss and duckweed along with a hyacinth or 2 on top...in 2 of the chambers but this is only a thought as ill get denitrification from the lava rock in a few months time... any thoughts on this??

why will you be getting denitrification from lava rock?

doing the same as my buddys pond leave the rock in a low flow area and dont ever touch it...

With the shape that this media has, I'd be upping your current plans for mech filtration to at least include 2 cubic feet of course foam, 1 cubic foot of filter floss, then a micron filter sock or two, and finally some fine closed celled foam. The shape will clog in the middle if you don't have good mech.
