So I went to Australia and got back about a week ago and since cockatoos seem to be everywhere there I have really fallen in love with them. I looked around the local stores and found a few. A pink galah cockatoo for $2100 the store associate said that these were a really rare bird to find is that true? and then I found a goffins cockatoo for $650 this looked like a really good price to me was it? Then I could never find one but I did love the black cockatoos there does anyone know how much these cost? Then there is always my original idea of a scarlet macaw. Which one of these do all of you think would be the biggest bang for the buck??? Any help would be awesome and if you all have any other suggestions I am very open to them.

Here is my cockatoo...she is pretty and quite loveable but cockatoos scream at the top of their lungs at least two times a day ..for no obvious reason... i love her so its okay but i just wanted to warn you about their screeching screams...i cannot say everyone of them do this...but i know it is common enough that they aquired the reputation....and then their is the african gray... i would own more of these if i could, it is like having another person in the house..no destruction... talks to you about everything..can i have a cookie and goodnight.. knows what he is saying because they are incredibly smart... just google and do alot of research about each bird species...learn everything so you will know it all when you bring your feathered friend home..and be prepared to give it many years of attention...when they bond it is for life...

Also dont forget its much better to have them in copples or groups than alone. They are very social birds and need another birds to interact and "talk" to. If they are deprived of that many behavior disorders can happen like pulling fathers ,loud colings, agression, etc. Also make shure you have a very large(the larger the better) aviary ready for them. Also have considered adopting several from a rescue society insted of buying them? There are many in the US. For that serch on the rescue societys on kingsnake.:)

good advice Coura about the adoption..so many need homes that would make wonderful pets and be thank full....

As for black cockatoos there are several breeders in Europe and in the US that have excess animals from time to time, but the total number of animals is still very restricted and the prices are completley exorbitant. Also because they are so rare outside Australia and so expensive I wouldnt recomend that you keep one as a "pet", they need to bred if we want this species in our western aviculture in the future. They are just to rare to maintain even one individual in a non reproductive state. Even more rare are the gang gang cockatoos for wich there are corrently a hand full of holders
