new blue dolphin

is it possible to tell the difference in sex of the cyrtocara moori aka blue dolphin at 3.5"? i just aquired one and cant tell. i mean, it's pretty blue, but i was wondering. help anyone?

The only real way to sex a fish properly is to vent them. Your fish should be big enough for you to see the holes just in front of the anal fin. In a male they are both very small and the female has the back one that is a whole lot larger. Catch your fish and turn it upside down and do an inspection. This is the safest way to tell. Once they have bred it is easy as as soon as a female is getting ready to spawn you will see her start to get a bit rounder at the stomach area and then her back hole tends to start protruding. My 9year old son can tell without hesitating.
