Just picked up your build and responded to the pm, any updates?
I am out of town this week. So I am replying from my cell. My response may be a bit limited. We decided to separate the pond/garden. I built the garden area for my wife last week. I have had one contractor come out and quote me a price to dig a very large pond. I have also spoke with one company that digs water wells. I am leaning towards digging a 3/4 acer pond now and having a water well dug to constantly feed it. My 8' x 16' koi pond build price tag got so high that I think I might just dig a "real pond" more like 150' x 220' that's like 12' deep. It's a different project all together but no filters will be used just a constant flow from a well to keep it topped off with fresh water. Natural ponds are very common in my area. It won't be a crystal clear koi pond but I should have almost no limits when it comes to stocking. I have 3 aces of land so I have the room for sure. I will post more pics / updates when I can.

Well if I dig the natural pond 150 feet by 220 feet by 12 feet deep. Dude that's bigger. LOL

If you go with the smaller, liner pond, then definitely do a bottom drain. I've got a 15'x7'x3-4' deep liner pond (3,500g) and I wish I'd put in a bottom drain. The skimmer works great collecting off the surface, but I don't have nearly enough flow along the bottom of the pond. The gar I have out there love the slow flow water, but its not so great for filtering and general cleanliness of the bottom.

If I had it to do over again, I'd do a bottom drain plus a skimmer, with separate pumps for each, and separate returns for each.

Never thought about RTC, can they take the winters? As for gars, they in every ditch by me and I font care for them much. What's a paimas?
