New Build ~ 600 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought the same thing but Aqua Ultraviolet states that they already pre-taped the fittings and that more tape can be added if needed but do not use sealing compound because it will damage the valve. ?????

Ironically the one leaking is the one pre taped from the manufacturer. I did the other one myself and it's fine so I think a bit more will fix it

Rectorseal 5 is available at all the big box and hardware stores in my area. It's basically the consistency of toothpaste...it hardens up a little over time, but it's not like solvent or anything like that that will permanently bind the two pieces together. You can disassemble without any issues. It's just pliable/soft enough to fill voids but viscous enough to prevent water from leaking through the threads.

Interesting that Aqua UV thinks it might clog the valve to the filter...I guess if you are really heavy handed with it that might happen, but just to be safe I would definitely follow what Kendragon is saying and stick with teflon tape (at least for the union fitting to the filter).

Here's the FAQ from Reeflo's site:

SETUP AND INSTALLATION

ATTACHING PIPING

· Avoid Teflon tape on the threads-the threads are tight, the pump is not high pressure-Use liquid sealant around the top threads

· Avoid overtightening-Not a high pressure pump-Hand tighten until snug and STOP!

Well I likely over did it. Some need tightening, some are only supposed to be hand tight. An oversight on my part. The leak on the pump is much less than the Ultima.

I believe AquaUltraviolet is afraid that thread sealant will act as a lubricant allowing overtightening. They went as far as putting the tape on for the buyer. I have in the past cracked connections not know that hand tight is enough when using sealant.

This. They specifically say to only use tape on the Ultima connections. Using pipe dope will void your warranty.

Only use pipe dope on your connections to your Reeflo pump.

Use this for teflon tape:

This is the best stuff I have ever seen. I used it on my threaded fittings and it worked great. I also use it at work on refrigerant equipment and have great success with it there, and we often test that equipment up 500psi. You just use three wraps and put it together. I will warn you though, it does reduce the friction a lot, so you do have to be careful when tightening. However, it works fantastically.

looks great, some very nice work and super clean. Loved your helper as mine is always close to the action as well.

I've had it running for a couple days now, minus the sump.

I am very happy with that flow. Much easier to dial back and save watts than wish I had more. Nice to have the option at least.

This should be fully sunk in a couple days. I will scape it a bit and see if it will stay in here or move to the 500.

Looks awesome. What did you end up doing about the loc-line lengths ?

Thanks! Knuckle, one socket piece and nozzle. I had to order a couple more. The top returns are just the bulkhead fitting for now. I swapped em with the bottom so I can reach them when they arrive.
