New Build ~ 600 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did manage to source and order a lot of the parts needed for the tank this week though. I got lids, the plumbing for the sump, the loc-line, bio media, the server cabinet etc...

Finding a cabinet that would fit in between the posts of the stand was a PITA but I found the one model available. The posts are 21.5" apart from one another. This is 20.5 wide. All other 6U models are 21.6. Wait till you guys see what I am planning for this thing. Sooooooooooo clean

Back on track. The leak on the pump slowed so I left it in hopes it would go away while we were on vacation. I decided to take it down and change a few things and fix that while I was at it. Nice chance to backwash the smaller ultimas and not waste any water.

I put ball valves on each return but the bottom so if an Ultima needed be removed or serviced, the tank would have to be drained. Not sure how I missed that but it would drive me crazy later so I have to fix it

I am letting everything cure until tomorrow before firing everything back up. This should be the last time I have to drain it.

The backwash line as well as sump overflows are up next.

Pulling the pumps for (hopefully) the last time right now.

If it leaks after this its staying that way or I'm taking these pumps out back and having a little fun with my seekins lol.. I'm fed up with leaks.

I saw an add for locktite 55 that is supposed to be good for larger diameter pipe. It is actually a string that is wrapped around the male thread instead of tape. It says it is good for plastic, and may be worth a look.

If the leak is on the suction side, it will draw the dope into the thread when the pump is turned on. You can apply more as it runs or electrical tape the joint. Negative pressure will pull the tape tight.
