That tank looks familiar, who'd you get it from?

Hey Joe, I hope you are well! I am not sure the total history on it but they were a pair of 600's and a friend sold them to a new owner. I was able to track down this one but the other was already sold.

The guy that sold them lives south of me an hour or so. I don't recall his name, sorry.

Some patch work/crack repair. This is just the top. I still have to do the sandwich pieces on the under side. I will finish that up when the tank is back, right side, up.




It cleaned up nicely.

The back of the tank looks like ass. I have no clue what dude was thinking spray painting red over black. Some people should not be allowed to have nice things... Regardless I can't take it off without a ton of crazing or elbow grease so fresh layer of paint is the best choice.



This was the test spot to remove the old paint. Basically confirmation that I am not spending any further time on removing the old paint.



Taped off and first coat on..



Coat #3 and it is looking like a brand new tank..



I'm happy with this result.

A good friend recommended I paint the bottom while I still can. In hindsight I would not recommend it. This stuff is really hard to remove after years of being stuck to the tank. I had to remove it all by hand via scraping and then using chemicals to dissolve the remaining adhesive.

Once taped off I did the edges first and worked my way in. Four coats all of the way around.

Stand is solid. I wouldn't have changed anything. The 1/4" is way more than what you need but as long as the builder didn't take you to the cleaners on the price for it then why not.

Thanks Kevin! It is and is taking me a while to get it done and even longer to post. I work a lot of hours. Hopefully I will be happy with this setup given the amount of time I spent planning.

The pricing was fair considering the labor and material cost. 1/4". He does this on the side and is in the marine side of the hobby. Great guy, local and delivers. Glad to hear you would do the same. Thanks!!!
