A recent discovery in Brazil revealed the largest known species of caecilian amphibian. It's more than twice the size of the next known species of caecilian. Dubbed the [male anatomy] Snake (due to its resemblance to part of the male anatomy), Atretochoana eiselti attains the length of about 30". It has no gills or lungs and is believed to 'breath' solely through its skin.

Let's keep ALL the juvenile comments to ourselves.

no gills or lungs? must be VERY primitive

cool that they found him though!

Engineers found it during the planning of a new dam on the amazon. There are concerns that the dam will seriously impact species through deepening of the river and an increase in silt in the waterways.

Some years ago I lived in florida, and I found a caecilian near my house, the headshape was a little different but it was clearly a caecilian.

Well that may be hope for the opponents of the Belo Monte project!

Seen pics of this before but never knew what it was. It must be a very primitive species.

oddball, how is it YOU always find these creatures that look like or have odd male anatomy? can you enlighten us with some fish that look like or have odd female anatomy next time? i'd be interested in collecting those

Given it's appearance,if this creature was a fish it would easily steal the common name that a certain saltwater fish has.
