New cat rant. Anyone rescue lately?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
she looks like a hell cat ;-) even in the 1st pic, her expression does when she was still weak. but in that last pic, sorry- LOL- she's getting her strength back, and looks like she's holding in poltergeist. Almost any animal can be manageable when sick, then totally different once well. there's not much that can be worse than a mad cat who feels trapped and wants AWAY.

I wouldn't feel guilty at all. Take her to a cat rescue. they are better equipped. a cat bite could be dangerous even before the baby comes.

That she is lol she has no problem showing her attitude. She's accustomed to being outside, so I understand why she is the way she is but still. I agree with you and I foresee this cat only staying until she gets better.

oh man i've been waiting for a thread like this!
okay so heres my story, one day i was walking home from work and i heard cats meowing i didnt think much of it, i was really tired and when straight to my room, while i was in my bed i could hear the cats meowing. the next morning i was getting ready to go to my gf house , that afternoon when i came home i saw a little white kitten with orange paws, he was skinny and really dirty, now i've never been a cat person but i felt bad for him so i tried to get him, but he ran away and whent under a truck, so i just let him go, then that night i heard the meowing again! now i was sure it was the kitten i had seen that afternoon, but it was late and i was to lazy to get him, so the next day i whent to take my dog for a walk, and i heard they kitten, so i whent to see where the meowing was comming from and to my surprise i saw the kitten next to the truck he ran under the day before, but he wasnt the one meowing, at that point i realized there were more kittens somewhere near, i followed the sound and stuck between the tire and them rim there were 2 kittens, they seemed like they were in very bad shape so i tried to grab them, but they whent in farther, my hand was to big to fit to i took my shirt off and wraped it around my hand and pulled them out by the tail, when i saw them they were just skin and bones, they couldnt even walk, i guess they where in there for a while , and one of them had his eye all messed up and there was pus coming out, now i couldnt keep them because no one in my family likes cats so i took them to an old lady who lives 3 houses away from me, she loves cats and was acctualy looking to buy some not to long before, she took them both, saddly one of them died, but the other survived and is now a big and very healthy, and as for the other cat with the orange paws, he was never caught and i havent seen him since, anyways thats my story :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^ hate when that happens.

Glad to know at least one survived and had a happy ending. ;]

You know the funny thing is right before I got this cat I seen another black and white cat at the gas station, a fairly young one and I was going to try to catch it. The next day I saw the cat again, only this time with 3 kittens in tow, so I'm glad I didn't try to get her the first time. Then a few days ago my bf almost hit 2 kittens that ran in front of the car but couldn't turn around to see where they went since he had traffic behind him. No cats had popped up around our area in months and maybe it was just wishful thinking, but I thought it was a sign that I got the right cat..

all my cats in recent decades have showed up as strays.
I am fortunate to not live in the city, so when cats show up I can feed & tame a feral without locking it inside a house. learned a long time ago how crazy some can be when the door closes behind them ;-)
I had one tom who shot straight up over the curtain rod & clawed his way down. up & down, up & down, yowling like someone had ahold of him. I opened that door and he shot out like he had been lit on fire.
LOL.
ok? so now I understand more about confinement issues. mind you, I had been working on this guy for quite a while & he had let me pet him.
recent years, all females. they get affectionate & follow me all over out in my yard but honestly, after being loose so much of their life they just do short indoor visits then want OUT.
wish I could upload an old short vid of my current female when I first started touching her, it was hilarious: purr, hiss spit growl, purr. looked psycho.
anyhow, don't risk yourself. I've seen nasty ulcerated cat infections.

Congrats on the soon to be baby!!...I am pregnant with our first..but much earlier in to it than you. ( so exciting and scarey )

...on to the rescues..we rescued allot of cats, or used to before we could not get rid of some..glad to have rescued and will do it again..she looks like a handful!

oh man that sucks! and thats why i dont drive much, i rather take the bus anyways we have alot of stray cats in our neighbourhood, so kittens pop up everywhere! and it sucks really cause most of them die:( but im glad i could save atleast one and find it a good home

Wow, what a story and I'm glad to see he has such a good home. Sounds like he gets around pretty good though for a paraplegic cat and yeah it most certainly isn't cheap but they are definitely worth it. This cat isn't my first, so I'm used to my stuff being destroyed or the naughty behavior, just not so welcoming to the aggression. I've lost too many cats to being outside so all my cats are indoor but we are building a cat enclosure for them to adventure. Only one is actually interested in going outside though, the others freak out if you try to take them out the door lol

Sorry to hear he's sick and hope he heals up fast. He's gorgeous btw. Is the bottom pic his mom? She's very pretty too.
Ya that last pic is the mom, it's kinda weird their patterns are the exact opposite but we saw another kitten a few months later that looked just like ours so we think they came from the same male. I don't really like letting the mom outside either tho, she sneaks out on the balcony and scales my apartment if we accidentally forget her outside. Its only happened 3 times but we literally find her clinging to the screen of our 2nd story bedroom window lol. But I can't believe yours is being so aggressive now, it sounds like that trip to the vet traumatized him so you probably just have to rebuild his trust. Or you can just bring out a string toy to take out his aggression on ;)

Poor pups, glad you rescued them. Keeping or rehoming? We have 6 dogs here, 3 of them we are finding homes for and none of them are mine.

Rehoming. We have 3 rescues already. I lost all my "babies" in a house fire in 09, and I still Dont want any dogs( grieving still), but we took in a funny looking puppy with parvo when we moved back into the house. Then a year ago someone decided to dump a brindle lab (female) and a chihuahua(male) in my front yard. They both had some issues, worst of which was the lab was so abused she would pee herself anytime a guy would even look at her. The Chihuahua had eye issues and almost lost one. The puppies we have were found in a storm drain and were in horrible condition and smelled of rancid pee ( it took three baths to get rid of it).

Sad thing is I have always been an AmStaff/ pitbull owner(we literally had a pack/ we lost 5 adults and 3 puppies in the fire) I always disliked small dogs and now somehow I always have a damn chihuahua stuck to my leg.

My mom rescued a kitten that I got at work once. I was at Taco Bell working and a customer had a kitten in the car. I said cute cat, she said take, practically threw it through the drive thru window. I stuck it in a box, called mom to come get it. It was funny trying to keep the cat in the box with chicken and steak pieces with my boss out on the front line.

Mom called him Trouble. He was the meanest cat we have ever had. He had to be kept on a leash inside the house to keep from hurting any of the other cats or the dog. Absolutely vicous towards anyone but Mom, and he bit and scratched her a number of times. Got to the point we took him to the vet to give to one of the assistants who wanted a barn cat. Trouble bit the heck out of the assistant while trying to give him a shot. Ended up in quarantine over it. Mom brought him back, put him outside in a cage, she wouldn't let him run loose, afraid he would get hit by a car or starve to death. We finally gave him to a shelter, because we simply could not handle him anymore. It still bothers mom that she doesn't know what happened to Trouble.

I wouldn't take the chance with a baby present. I would take your cat to a no-kill shelter and let them do the best they can for her. You are doing the best you can by giving her the chance that you are now. Most people wouldn't attempt to keep or try to care for a mean cat. Maybe it is personality, or maybe she is just meant to be an outside cat.
