new cichlids

Oh yeah, since you really wanted to know about diet here is my 2 cents.

Oscars need a lot of protein so I would suggest Massivore pellets, as well as nightcrawlers and crickets. As far feeder fish go as long as you breed your own as you have stated they will ok, although I would only feed once or twice bi-weekly.

Hikari, Omega One, and NLS all make extremely healthy pellets that should be used for the staple food.

Now when it comes to GTs they need veggies I would suggest feeding veggies twice a week. Hikari makes Cichlid excel which is suppose to be an african cichlid food but is made for all plant eating fish. Omega one makes veggie pellets and flakes. It is also important to feed fresh veggies like skinned peas or lima beans, some like asparagus and spinach as well.

I feed my GT peas and or lima beans once a week as well as either the cichlid excel or the veggie flakes/pellets. It would also be beneficial to feed the Os veggies at least once a week.

A varied diet is important for health, color, and size.

That will be too many fish in the long run. The GTs will take well over a year to reach 8+ inches, and it is not uncommon for them to reach 10".

I see a lot of problems with this. I am not an expert on Os but unless they are a pair I believe it is best to keep 1 or in groups of 4+ or they will just pick on each other. Also you would need a bigger tank than a 110 for a pair of Os.

GTs (especially males) will not tolerate other GTs of the same sex and although they are relatively peaceful as get larger their aggression will go up.

If I were you I would keep 1 O and GT (For best results 2 males), and then add maybe a school of larger schooling fish, nothing that would fit in the Os mouth.

thats y i picked the odd number of fish i knew that aggression would b a problem thats y i bought 5 of 2 diff races which will divide up aggression i think a 125 for these fish will be ok not perfect by standards but with over filtration good feeding practice and water changes i believe they will stay healthy and also i am feeding the guppies a mix of the tetra flakes cichlid staple and tetra sinking pellets which have a higher percent of protein then the others

but still the thing were your keepin that many oscars an they can get well over 1 ft long.

also i do respect the whole overstoking ideas but also dissagree on the demands people require for people to meet im sorry but i do not believe u need a 250 for 5 o s

thats the thing tho for each oscar to have its own room you need a tank that big. you an your tank would be like 2 full grown oscars in a 50 gallon.

the same could happen with your polypterus senagalus as they reach 16 in the wild 12 in the home aquarium

yea thats wild caught an ive only seen 1 that got 1 ft long. an the 125 is still small.

You apparently don't really want the advice that you have been given. So there should be no further need of posting questions. Enjoy your tank and the consequences of your decisions.
