New Clown Knife - A NEW START

Okay guys so the some of my friends on here already know..
I'm having my new house built and will be done in late August early Sept. I'm having a section of the house for a fish room and I'm building a pond. I went to the LFS today and was looking around at some fishes to past the time and I noticed they had a Clown Knife, I don't know about you guys but I think these fish look like big dolphins! so I bought him... I put him in the tank with my baby oscar and severum..

My indoor tank(pond) is going to be probably 15' wide x 25' long 3ft deep

They had a 2" RTC there I ALMOST bought him (kinda wish I did but I will get one soon...)

anyways I thinking RTC, Knife Fish so far on the list...

The user on here his name always sticks out C L O W N K N I F E so that's why when I seen this in the store I bought it rofl!

I'm just worried because hes small, like 3 inches with eating wise..

Haha, you seen my name on here so you bought one? Nice! He looks great, careful though, they can be sensitive to different water conditions when smaller from my experience. My first one I bought, he was fine in the store and then when I got him home and floated him in the bag for 20 mins, I released him without acclimatising him and the different water parameters put him into shock and he went upside down and developed swim bladder disorder and died the same day I bought him. Kinda dumb on my part for not acclimatising him I guess, but thats what can happen to knife fish without proper acclimatising.

I fed mine frozen brine shrimp when younger and then switched to feeder fish because I kept mine with cichlids and the cichlids would get to the food faster. I don't suggest getting yours on live though unless you raise your own feeders, because as you probably know, feeders can carry parasites and other diseases.

I no longer have my clown knife anymore though because I can't get a bigger tank which I would have eventually needed for him I hope to get another someday, I love knife fish, I'll probably try a different knife fish species next time

Yeah I seen your name on here multiple times so I bought one

Yeah I hope he makes it through the transition.. he's only been in the tank for like an hour but hes already got that "I like this fish" type of vibe on with me.

That sucks with your clown man.. Hes in a 75 currently and I have an empty (No fish for it since I'm moving soon) 220 which I have just in case something happens to my planned move and or pond.

I know you never had yours in a pond but how do you think he would do in one? I'm thinking he would love it since from what I hear they are a little shy/skittish

I'm sure your CK would love it.....but if your going to get a RTC, I don't think its a good idea to keep him with the CK...I've heard of peoples RTCs eating their clown knives...I think it'd be safer if your CK was larger than your RTC, and even then your RTC will probably outgrow it

I don't know though, it could work but I've even heard of RTCs trying to eat fish too big for their mouths as well. Maybe someone else on here whose kept a RTC and a CK together can chip in. Perhaps the member on here called "arapaimag" can help you, maybe send him a PM? I'm pretty sure hes kept them together

UPDATE

Swimming around enjoying his tank, not even 8 hours in the tank and he's eating sinking pellets that my oscar doesn't gobble up.
I honestly think I did a good job it makes me so proud being able to add a fish and have no deaths, no stress and fish who enjoy there environment that I provide <3

He swims up to the glass when the tank is approached as well lol! Unless they get shyer with time they don't seem that shy I've seen way worse with other fish.

nice, I recently got a bronze Ck(even though I got a 20inch one already lol) They are really shy when small(well mine is lol).Lucky you...yours on pellets mine only want feeder.

What I'm feeding that worked on my Clown Knife within an hour of being in the tank with it eating.. seems to love'em

And of course my O because shes a camera hog...
