What tank mates if any are in their with him? I think it really depends on the type of fish in with him because he hides in his cave during the day and the oscar swims around, but when I approach the tank the oscar comes up to the glass and the clown knife has started to come out of his cave and swim underneath the oscar then if i walk away he goes back to his cave.. I honestly believe he's learning from the oscar..

Update on him...
hes doing awesome.. OMG has he grew like super fast from the last update I want to say a whole inch (or maybe he just has filled out from getting more, better food then the LFS)

Aggression: (Like I figured) The Oscar has took the thrown, before I don't know if you guys read but my Clown KILLED my Green Severum and got pissy with my Oscar, (As in if the oscar swam up to him he would not swim away in submission) that's not like that anymore... My Oscar (I wouldn't let her anyways id stop it somehow) doesn't bully him but he also doesn't try to be the boss if my oscar DOES get close he just swims away, just a bit ago she swam into his cave (2 exits) and without hesitation he swam right out and to the other part so there's not apparent fighting there that's good.

Does anyone have any experience with Clowns "biting"?? These things I won't lie after seeing how fast he strikes pellets and a worm every so often I'm like omg ouchy my finger no no lol

i have never been bitten by any knives. they are about the only fish that have not bitten me....

My ck learned to eat pellets right away because he was in my 240 with a couple of oscars, so he has no problem feeding off the bottom for sinking pellets or taking floating pellets from the top. He's now just over 14" and rules the tank he is in and has no problem standing up to an 8" Trimac. I've never been bitten but fish that get bitten can't take it very long.

I HIGHLY recommend them man... if you can of course provide the care and stuff, they show so much love and trust in you like having a big dog :D
Get a female one though.. so much easier to take care of and don't have to trim anything and way more mellow... For example my little goats grow horns and these bad boys sometimes will chase you and you have run from them :)

Theres no grass because theres currently a drought where I'm at in Ohio so I haven't planted any sadly ;'(

Good luck with the clown knife but in my experience I always get my fish a little larger than 4-6 inches, since I have nothing but bad luck with small fish either getting eaten or dying on me. And clown knifes are nocturnal fish so don't trip if you don't see him eating during the day, the only way to be positive that he ate at night is he will be bulged up behind his head or his stomach

they can be hard to get off of live food. also they can be fragile when young and are also likely to get bullied. they won't stand down when a cichlid challenges them so they will get their fin torn or maybe a scratch or too. the most important piece of info is always give them a place to hide. mine spends most of his time in a cave, and I'm happy with it cause I built the cave upto the glass side so i can spy on him, and also because it means hes not getting picked on by my oscar which has become a major bully recently.

I've had mine maybe a month or slighly over, hes grown from 5.5 - 7.5 inches. After trying him with shrimp pellets and blood worms etc. even feeders and live earthworms. after all the trying I've finally got him to accept massivore. he goes mental for it and now it will be much easier to watch him shoot up in size.

if only my growout datnoid would do the same!

Ps. about the whole hunting thing on page 2, Sbuse is areally good guy doing all that for the animals and stuff but that doesnt really change the fact that he kills animals for fun.

theres no justifying paying for houses to be built for orphans so you can go back and kill them later. you are a very responsible and eco friendly hunter, but a hunter nonetheless and hunters kill living creatures for sport. doesn't matter how comfortable you make them with your own funds

Update:

Clown knife is growing good! No picture updates because nothing special! he just has gotten a bit bigger.. hes a super sweet fish! He comes up and eats a pellet out of my hand then swims back to his little cave! he always comes out though when I get near the tank it is so awesome my baby oscar wont even hand feed.!!

hes about 8 inches now and is super docile, he hangs out with a little catfish which he dwarfs but they always swim together and use the same cave (lol) I'll update pictures soon..

I have a really friendly one: )
