if he upgraded some stuff he would still pay less than the xps and get much more of a machine

Might as well build from scratch if you have to upgrade a package deal

For someone that is not computer savvy...?

Get a manufacture with a warranty... Adding a decent graphics card doesn't void a warranty.

I still think my pc linked from tigerdirect is the best option for him, or a darn good one


Also check the Dell Outlet.. have had "0" issues and great success, quad cores ~$500
