New Computer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LOL. It can be done pretty easily, Alex. Just go S-video out to your T.V. (I went from computer over to receiver instead since I only have one S-video input on the T.V. but have like 8 S-video inputs on the receiver). Then take a look at your monitor properties and make sure that you enable display on both your T.V. and the monitor. That should do the trick.

Alt+F5 will allow you to toggle in between monitor and T.V. (at least that's how my ATI card works).

Bobby,

Nice machine !

You may want to think about adding another 1GB for Nikon Capture / Photoshop CS2 ....

The way I look at computers, and have been doing so for many years, is that the only HP item you see in front of you is just that ..... HP sign. It is a bit different with monitors. The same principle applies to any other brand: SONY, DELL, IBM and list goes on.

One of those days try taking your computer apart and look for HP brand. You probably won't find anything made by HP. So basically consumers are being misled by all those companies into buying brand computers. They throw big numbers like 100GB Hard Drive which in actuality could be 5,000 rpm low class excuse for hard drive. Same applies to Memory Cards, Heatsinks, Fans, Motherboards and list goes on and on....

I refuse to spend 1000$ on brand computer if I know that I can build the same if not better for the same amount or less. This is not an option for everyone but certainly something to think about.

I agree with you Jay about the components inside. I bought my wife's three years ago from Comp USA and it was one of their own builds. It had much better components than the same size Sony Vaio we were comparing it to. For two hundred dollars less. My second computer I owned was a custom build job too. I picked out the motherboard, hd, graphics card, etc., etc.

I have had six desktops and one laptop. I have taken a few of them apart before disposing them for security reasons. It looks like it wouldn't be that difficult to build one. I looked into buying all the components one time. The price was very similar to buying a custom build or popular brand one. Main difference was the warranty and not worrying about "did I do that right?"

I still like the little things about the HP though. Excellent support (I only had to use it once when I added a monitor to the last comp). And I think when you compare the branded components used in it to the custom build choices, with the same components, there is not a big difference in price. Sony really overprices their computers imo. I think the Dell and the HP are similar in price range for the same components.

Another gig of RAM? I think it is expandable to 4 gb. May due it.

Bobby, I agree w. Jay, you wont believe the difference when you add that 2nd chip.

I am looking at a similar setup right now, and def. at least 2 gigs, maybe more later

CS2 is only capable of using 2 GB, so it's really up to you if you would want to up it all the way to 4 GB. Would help if you're doing a lot of multitasking on both cores (especially with encoding taking up system resources on one core), but otherwise, not necessary.

This is a pretty nice setup youve got :D

But really to fully utilize the quickness youll need around 2 gb worth of RAM....

The 4200 X2 AMD Anthlon Processor is VERY nice for multi tasking and can be overclocked well...

Do you know the specific type of graphics card? Raideon or Nvidia?

Also what kinda MOBO?

You can find out most of this info by going Start>Run>dxdiag

I bet this puppy is excellent and fast... Must be smooth too.... why didnt you just go all out and get the 4800+ X2? lol

Garrett

Also one more thing... if you want to build your own computer its ALOT cheaper then buying from any store that i know of...

Try www.newegg.com for very cheap prices on computer building equipment!

4gb will usually only slow down the system but when it comes to Applications like PS and Video Editing Programs and such that use ALOT of RAM i think its needed...

If he does use both cores itll be a real advantage when using these very RAM intensive programs...

But since its only CS2 i think he should be fine with 2gb?

Whatcha think?

Bobby, find the thread Jay posted on a specific PS CS2 speed test. Try with 1 and 2 gigs. I am very interested in finding out the difference.
