New Crenicichla, need ID!:) thanks guys

thanks! well this lfs usually grossly over prices things, so i thought if i haggled enough i might only slightly be overcharged. well looks like i'm lucky then! anyways, in the same tank was another identical looking pike BUT with a yellow circle ring on the tail. any idea what that is?

Cr. sp. 'Venezuela' looks like the johanna, only with a caudal ocellus. That would be my guess.

johanna are one of the crencich common in the hobby. but here lents are slightly more common i think. and that's saying something.

haha. no he dont. was down for feeders today, saw all the johanna. nice looking fish both lfs have, but only one that biggish lent with major hith. ): and at 300 bucks... ugh.
johanna actually are probably the most common. haha.

In all reality, does it matter if its rare or not? If you are happy with the fish, then I'd keep it!! Some of my most fav. fish I have are some of the most common cichlids available.

Around here in the states though, Crenicichla johanna are fairly common. With Crenicichla lenticulata being more 'rare'. So I suppose its subjected to where you live and the availability of certain species.

totally agree. johanna's dont do it for me though, gotta get those lents.
