I was thinking the WD-100CS that has a max flow rate of 400GPH. It would be for my 72 gallon.

That sounds good. Ideally you would pair it up with a canister or HOB filter because sometimes it can be hard to get the water crystal clear using only a wet/dry. The wet/dry would probably still be sufficient in terms of water quality so it's mostly just the look or clarity of the water I'm talking about. On my 65g (thanks Equidae ;)) I have a ProClear 75 wet/dry with a Rio 1400 pump and a Fluval 404 canister. It has a lot of fish that produce tons of waste so depending on what you stock the tank with, you can easily get away with less but I do recommend something to supplement the wet/dry.

the marineland and how many of the others?

I agree with sticky, as many as you can but I would say at least 3 filters: the magnum, a cascade and an AC or the second cascade. But it really depends on how many fish and of what size, you put in there.

Good Morning guys and gals

i am turning my 125 into a sump:headbang2How strong of a pump will i need?

depending on how many GPH that the overflow will run...

For a 500g tank, I would say 2 pumps 2500GPH each. Then 4 overflows each capable of 1500gph or 2 at 3000gph each. I would just make DIY overflows with PVC pipe, will be much cheaper than buying four CPR 150's or something.

sound like a lot of money to invest...im sure miss mass have plenty of money...

however it's a lot of work as well...why not just go with a fews fx5? just plug and go...easy, cheaper and less headace...that's just me

I finally got around to making one of these using this as a template
overflow.jpg

Im pretty sure some posted it here somewhere. I made one addtion to the design, a slipxfpt 90 attached to the T fitting in back with a hose adapter.

An of course you have to play with the pipe lengths depending on the tanke you have.

I think it works much better than the HOB overflows.

Joey's got the plans here. Paint it black, lay it flat against the back and it's very unobtrusive and doesn't take up much space. Three or four of those ought to do it but you may need to increase the diameter of the pipe.
