If you're talking about re-releasing it, please take note:
Once a fish is put into an aquarium, PLEASE! DO NOT introduce him back into the wild.
#1 it is illegal
#2 it can introduce various harmful elements into the ecosystem.

You're better off destroying the fish, I know that sounds bad, but it is better than foreign bacteria or other organism that may not affect the pumpkinseed but another native species or the food they feed on and then from there you can have a chain-reaction through out the ecosystem.

I agree with this guy. It takes just a few seconds for pathogens to get on the wild fish.
You can either eat it, or kill it and filet it for the piranhas. I've cut fillets off sunfish before- my friend's oscar enjoyed the belly strips

Is it possible to keep a buettikoferi with discus?

not a chance in the world unless your buettikoferi is blind and has no fins.
Just to make sure we are on the same page its the Buettikofer's bichir I was talking about. I see alot of people getting into poly's and I was thinking about jumping on the band wagon but I wanted to ask questions before I did so.

That would have to be one hell of a bichir to choke down a red devil.

so now it will be the opposite in the long run it will be hard to get food to them and those nasty type of cichlids have a nasty habit of eating the polys eyes.
