Yeah I have egg crate and I already have a special sized divider for the tank but I have fear that the smaller one will be able to get through the bottom or one of the holes in the side and also i can't breed them like I had planned because people told me they were all female

Putting the divider in will help, it's the same sort of thing as other people put a divider in for a breeding pair. The female is usually smaller and can go back and forth at will. The male being larger can't pass through the divider, thus the female can escape if needed.

Stop worrying about what others have said about their sec. Do weekly water changes and keep your water pristine for optimum growth and in a few months you'll be able to tell with certainty their sex. The aggression the larger one is showing makes me think it might be male. The fact that is larger than the other one from the same batch indicates one of two things or both; either is male which tend to grow bigger faster or is getting more food than the other one, or both. Putting in the divider will allow you to feed them separately so they can eat as much as they want without competition. If the larger one still continues to grow faster this could indicate is male. Secondly, you've indicated that the largest and the smallest are both starting to develop a blue tint to their fins and some blue freckles, which if I'm not mistaken are indicators of being male.

In short: separate them, do plenty of water changes and feed them a varied high quality diet to keep them happy and healthy and let them grow. Patience, patience, patience, in 2-3 months you could end up with a breeding pair or three females offer even three males. All you can do is wait or sell them all at a loss and try to find a seller/breeder with one large enough to accurately sex them and buy the line male you wanted, but by the time you are able to do that the ones you have now will most likely have grown out enough to sex themselves.

My smallest dovii is missing today ? :( I am frustrated he was in a seperate tank all to himself and he is gone. He isn't anywhere around the tank and he isn't on the floor or the stand or in the filter so frustrated anyway on the bright side I still have 2 and You may be right Mike. I came home from school today and it seems like my largest one he or she is getting more blue coloring around the fins by the day. I got him eating pretty good on hikari jumbo carnisticks cut up into smaller slices.

Read this thread. the lack of bar pattern and bluing of fins plus the extra aggression make me think that bigger one is male. But it needs to grow an inch or two to be sure. Look for black freckling in the scales as another sign it's male. This is supposed to start happening somewhere between 3.5" to 5" and some develop slower than others so until it's over 6" you still have a chance. I had found a really cool article written by Jeff Rapps with detailed info on the dovii but I can't seem to find the link any more.

So confused right now I held off on the divider until I could see if things got better. The bigger one of the two that are related is swimming beside the smaller one almost touching one another at times and the smaller one is giving in and letting him. Other times the bigger one opens his mouth to the other and pushes him slowly back and sometimes he just rams the little one. So confused haha they are bi polar the bigger one always dishes it out and the smaller one always takes it.its a love hate sibling-hood

Sorry foe back to back to back posts but I had to post this haha today the bigger one of the two is in a terracotta pot relaxing when the smaller one decides to get in there and then the bigger one shimmered his whole body several times like as if he was trying to fan the smaller one the smaller one kinda did the same thing and they went in circles. Then I guess the bigger one got tired of it and kicked the smaller one out so weird ?! :o
