New Festae Male

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just a little update, I am yet to see him really eat anthing substantial, but his stomach is no longer as concave and is looking closer to normal. I guess he is browsing on pellets or bloodworms that reach the bottom. Any advice on getting this guy to eat would be greatly appreciated. So far I have tried bloodworms, hikari cichlid gold pellets (floating and sinking), Hikari carnivore pellets, brine shrimp, and I even tried the frozen algae cubes that come in the variety frozen pack. I have yet to try live foods as I am normally try to stay away from the practice, but I have some guppies that wont breed and I am growing tired of them fast. Should I throw them into the tank and see if he will try to eat them?

Try Hikari Bio-Gold,it enhances there appetite and they eat much better after being on it a couple days

Will do, I think theres some in there already (I mis my own food so I can just add the assortment everytime), but I will get some today. I just remembered that he was kept in a tank alone for the past 8 months, could this have something to do with it?

My festae never really seem to gorge themselves, so I try to feed them smaller amounts 2-3 times a day. Try some frozen stuff like cut up smelt or shrimp, night crawlers will normally do the trick too. Also I've noticed they feel more comfortable with company, but It's gotta be something tough. I threw a couple synodontis cats with my pair for a bit and it gave them a bit of confidence.

thanks guys, he is my 125 with a couple green terrors, a pair of convicts, and some silver dollars. I know this wont last but I am going to try it till I see aggression issues!
