just had to chime in i vote that he is a very nice male . females usually have a much more defined spot (mark) on dorsal.
i am in the process of trying to breed a pair of wild caught ecuadorians .

It's a female! All male festea cichlid's are always greenish or a little brownish. That festea is a female for shure, it's just growing, so her natural female color (red, or orange) should come out pretty soon.

I believe that fact that the fish is MALE has been confirmed already. Males are not ALWAYS green or brown. Look at the pair in Balton's avatar.
