I really cant tell the difference... Florida (plathyrinchus) have smaller spots than spotted (oculatus) from what I've seen. And this piece has some large spots?..

Not too suprised its a florida though...

pattern is no defining feature. both fish are almost identical to the untrained eye, but some differences are that floridas have shorter, broader snouts and have considerable thicker bodies. this is noticed mainly in the wild as there have been hardly any confirmed spotted gars in the hobby, hence it's impossible to tell if this will be replicated in our aquariums(unless R/S have alr done so). all that said, chances are that if you do not know the exact locality of where yr gar was collected(this includes nearly all lfs specimens) or if it was captive bred, you can safely assume that you have a florida gar. in fact spotted gars are only now being introduced into the hobbyist market as it's own species, instead of the usual "florida/spotted" gar by solomon(e_americanus) and richard(brooklamprey).

oh a snakehead heheheheheh
NOW I'm INTERESTED :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Ok, thanks!

How big is he now? And how do you get them on pellets?

I don't know, I haven't measured him in ages. Probably around 18-19" inches long.

I've heard you can starve them for a while to get them to switch. I didn't do that, he just started taking them one day. I guess he watched the other fish eating them and learned they were food, lol.

Thanks. I wouldn't worry just yet, I've heard they can go weeks to months without eating. Just keep trying what you're doing. You could try enticing your gar with those food items by wiggling them in front of it while it's resting at the surface.
