"what"!!!!!!!!! Maybe i misunderstood but it sounds like to me that you are getting rid of all the fish you have in the 180 now and doing a cichlid tank that will never ever-ever-ever-ever work especially in that small of a tank. Now if you are buying a new tank for this set-up then i sincerely apologize but if no then thats just pure bad fishkeeping to make a commitment to your current tank and then just get rid of all of them. Just my opinion.....

You know that he isn't going to just throw them out in the yard.

I have more than one tank that has combos of cichlids that should not be able to be kept together but it works well when you are able to move the occasional fish that just can't get alog with the group.

You know that the fish don't really care who looks after them as long as they have a clean, right sized tank and they are fed.

i think the choices you've picked are fine for a grow out tank. Just know ( and i'm sure you do that some will need to moved at some point in time). Its all trial and error and we learn what works and what doesn't, then we fix the problem which i'm sure you will. good luck.

Jack you obviously didn't read my opening post very well because it said and i quote !!

I'll be buying them as 3 to 4 inch juviniles and growing them out and as they get bigger and out grow my tank i'm going to sell them on accordingly. Nice choice of fishes isn't it !

there is a reason i'll be doing this and thats because i know that some of the species i had listed can grow to quite a size and i would like to get rid of the one which won't get along with each other this leaving me with the fish which will get along !

Maybe i should have mentioned this in my opening thread and saved all this confusion ! but i thought by me mentioning ("I'll be growing them out and as they get bigger and out grow my tank i'm going to sell them on accordingly. Nice choice of fishes isn't it !") people would know and understand what i ment.

And thanks for your feedback apreciated

Best of luck Dan. Should be a interesting project. :D

I had a tank with similar stocking (as your list and the red devil would terrorize all of the others in the tank. He was just so much more aggressive. I had to pull him out and put him in a differnt tank. Once I did that, all was good. Could just be that devil though.

Good luck!!

I think that the tank size and stocking level have a lot to do with it. I have a 265gal with 1 - 10" and 3 - 8" red devil/midas and 40 other cichlids and everyone gets along fine.

Yeah, you are right. That tank I had may have been a little crowded. I was doing the same thing by using my smaller tank to grow them out.

Sounds like a good project you have going ^__^ Thats what I do I keep fish and if they are known to get big then I donate them to the local aquariums (ie:sea world, tampa, st pete/sarasota or plam coast) and it works out fine!! Good Luck!

Got a picture?

Starting them off as Juvies and seeing as they grow who gets along is a great idea. I've found that you can't always base fish on their general description as far as aggression goes. I've been told by people that own them that firemouths are not aggressive, yet I had one that terrorized my tank. I was told when i bought my severums yesterday by one person that they are not aggressive while another said that the lady that brought them in claimed that they killed everything in her tank..... It is all trial and error. I'm sure you know what you are doing and wish you the best!!!! Hope your Dempsey makes it through this process cause I love mine.......
